Used Kay 55 1/2 Size
The Kay Musical Instrument Company of Chicago, Illinois was founded in the 1920s and began producing cellos in 1937. This particular half-size cello was constructed in 1951 and has a serial number of 25XXX. It is a 55 model, which was designed and marketed for student use from 1937-1964. It has an ebonized walnut fingerboard and details, a maple top veneer, and a single piece back. The 55’s were constructed with durability in mind and have an excellent reputation for being able to play well and stay in tune, even through the wear and tear that school program instruments usually undergo. This instrument does have considerable finish wear throughout the body and some nicks in the sides, but nothing that penetrates the main body. The fingerboard has minimal wear and the strings are in great shape. It still holds its tuning very well and has a nice, rich tone. A new Glasser NY fiberglass bow and canvas carrying bag are included in this outfit. If you are looking for a wonderfully affordable and reliable 1/2 size cello, pick this one up today!
